Some families are held together by love. Others are held together by secrets, ambition, and everything they’re desperate to keep hidden.

There is something endlessly fascinating about stories that explore the complicated dynamics of family, particularly when wealth, power, resentment, and long buried secrets become tangled together. My Husband’s Family takes those elements and places them against the glamorous backdrop of the Mediterranean, where a luxurious family getaway becomes anything but relaxing.

What I particularly appreciated about this book was its storytelling structure. Rather than experiencing everything through one character’s eyes, we’re given multiple perspectives, allowing us to see the same family through very different lenses. Each character brings their own experiences, motivations, insecurities, and secrets to the story, and I really enjoyed how those perspectives gradually added layers to the larger mystery.

I think multiple points of view can be incredibly effective when they’re handled well, especially in a story where almost everyone has something to hide. What one character believes to be true might look entirely different through someone else’s eyes. It creates this fascinating tension between perception and reality, reminding us that there’s rarely just one version of a story.

But what made the structure even more interesting to me was the way the narrative moved between the events leading up to a pivotal moment and the aftermath.

I really liked getting to experience both sides of that dividing line.

There’s something compelling about knowing that something significant has happened while slowly discovering the decisions, relationships, and circumstances that led everyone there. The chapters set before the event build anticipation, while those afterward encourage you to reconsider what you thought you understood.

It’s a storytelling choice that makes you pay attention to the smaller details. Conversations, seemingly insignificant interactions, and complicated relationships take on new meaning when you’re aware that everything is building toward a particular moment.

And with each new perspective, the picture becomes a little clearer while somehow growing more complicated.

Beyond the mystery itself, I found the exploration of family relationships especially interesting. Families can be complicated under ordinary circumstances, but when money, expectations, and power become involved, those relationships can turn into something much more difficult to navigate.

The Wexley family provides plenty of opportunities to explore loyalty, resentment, ambition, and the lengths people might go to protect their own interests. Beneath the glamorous setting is a group of people whose relationships are shaped by far more than their shared last name.

One of my favorite lines from the book was:

“Some wounds stay open, raw beneath the skin, no matter how much time passes.”

I think it captures something important about the emotional undercurrents of a story like this. Time doesn’t automatically erase hurt, and just because people have learned to live alongside their pain doesn’t mean they’ve healed from it.

Sometimes old wounds influence decisions long after the original hurt has occurred. Resentments linger, relationships change, and people carry experiences that others may never fully understand.

It’s a reminder that the past doesn’t always stay in the past, especially when the people involved are still part of one another’s lives.

I also appreciated the contrast between the beautiful setting and the dysfunction unfolding within it. The Mediterranean backdrop, luxury yacht, and extravagant lifestyle create an almost idyllic picture, but the relationships beneath that polished exterior are anything but perfect.

It’s an interesting reminder that wealth and privilege might provide comfort and opportunity, but they certainly don’t guarantee happiness, honesty, or healthy relationships.

Ultimately, what I enjoyed about My Husband’s Family was the way its structure encouraged me to look beyond the surface of the mystery. The shifting perspectives and movement between before and after made the story feel like a puzzle, with each character holding a different piece.

And while the central mystery provides the suspense, the complicated relationships give readers something more to think about.

Because sometimes the most interesting question isn’t simply what happened. It’s what brought everyone to that moment in the first place.

For readers who enjoy family drama, morally complicated characters, buried secrets, and mysteries that unfold through multiple perspectives, My Husband’s Family offers an intriguing combination of all four.
