“…sometimes the only way to start over is to burn it all down.”
Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier was exactly the book I needed to read right now. The only thing that probably stopped me from devouring it in one sitting was the fact that I’ve been battling a migraine. But I honestly could have because this book was just THAT good!
The books starts out right after our main character Paris Peralta has been arrested in her home, covered in her celebrity husbands’ blood, standing in his bathroom, with his dead body in the bathtub behind her, and holding the murder weapon. As bad as this looks, that’s not at all what she’s actually worried about, because she has far darker secrets in her past, she has been trying to hide from, and someone is trying to blackmail her to keep them quiet.
Twenty-five years ago, Ruby Reyes, better known to the world as the Ice Queen, was convicted in Canada of a similar murder. Reyes knows who Paris really is, and now that she’s being unexpectedly released from prison instead of serving her life sentence, she wants paid to not expose the secrets Paris has worked so hard to hide.
Left with no other choice, Paris must confront her dark past, once and for all. Because the only thing worse than a murder charge are two murder charges.
Broken down into parts, this book follows current events in Paris’ life, as well as transport you back to the past through other characters eyes. I had a sinking suspicion through most of part two that I knew something but that didn’t make the bomb shell reveal of it any less shocking in my eyes because I love a good "I KNEW IT” moment, don’t you?
This was another excellent thriller written by Jennifer Hillier and she never fails to disappoint me. She’s easily one of my favorites and auto buy authors.
I rated this one a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
